George is a social change journalist, governance advocate, and media practitioner dedicated to strengthening democratic accountability through journalism, civic engagement, and public communication. His work explores how media and civic communication can strengthen public participation, institutional accountability, and inclusive development in societies shaped by inequality and democratic fragility across Africa.
With more than 13,000 hours of broadcast experience, George has hosted leading public affairs programmes examining governance, elections, social justice, and citizen participation. Beyond presenting the news, he has held senior editorial and management roles at Radio Now 95.3 FM Lagos, Kiss FM Lagos, and Omega 101.7 FM, where he has led newsrooms, coordinated correspondents across Nigeria, and shaped editorial strategies centred on public-interest journalism.
George believes journalism should do more than inform; it should help drive accountability and social change. His investigative reporting on illegal taxation in Anambra State contributed to public scrutiny that prompted the suspension of the practice. He has also supported democratic processes as an election observer with YIAGA Africa during Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election and as the anchor of Ebonyi State’s inaugural governorship town hall, creating opportunities for dialogue between citizens and political leaders.
Beyond journalism, George uses broadcast media, theatre, and emerging technologies to make civic education more accessible. He produced a United States Mission in Nigeria-funded radio drama on voter participation and co-created Zuby and the Ballot, an AI-assisted civic education short film designed to simplify electoral laws and encourage democratic participation among young people.
As South-East Coordinator of the International Purpose Driven Youth Initiative (IPDYI), George has led and supported initiatives advancing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1, 4, and 5. His civic education and youth mentorship programmes have reached more than 25,000 students and equipped over 400 at-risk young people with vocational, leadership, and life skills across multiple Nigerian states.
A Reuters-trained journalist on reporting trafficking and modern-day slavery, George also serves as Joint Team Leader for Turning the Tide, a media and advocacy initiative addressing trafficking and exploitation across Africa through investigative reporting and public awareness campaigns.
George holds a BA in Theatre and Film Studies from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and a Certificate in Public Leadership and Policy from the School of Politics, Policy, and Governance (SPPG). As an Atlantic Fellow for Social and Economic Equity at the London School of Economics and Political Science, he is deepening his understanding of inequality while exploring how journalism, civic engagement, and public communication can strengthen democratic accountability and advance more inclusive societies across Africa.
Growing up in poverty and exclusion, I saw how lack of information and representation keeps people powerless. What inspires me is seeing marginalized communities find their voice and confidence through dialogue and access to credible information. Through radio and civic engagement programmes, I have watched people move from silence and frustration to questioning authority, demanding accountability, and participating in governance.
