Pablo is a researcher and editor in the social sciences and humanities. He is also a writer and poet.
Pablo currently serves as Executive Director of ASPRODE, a Central American non-governmental organisation focused on environmental justice, education, and social innovation. He is also a member of Escuela Política para un Nuevo Proyecto, a Salvadoran social organisation dedicated to critical education and the strengthening of grassroots organising.
Drawing on his personal experience, integrating theoretical perspectives, and with the support of colleagues and local specialists, he has contributed to educational and cultural change processes aimed at building non-violent masculinities. He works with men in rural and suburban areas of El Salvador, applying popular education methods.
Pablo holds a bachelor’s degree in literature from the University of El Salvador and a master’s degree in philosophy from the Universidad Centroamericana José Simeón Cañas. His undergraduate thesis explores the relationship between testimony, history, and fiction in the work of the Salvadoran poet Roque Dalton, from 1966 to 1973. His master's dissertation, "Rage and Revolution: A Critical Assessment of Salvadoran Revolutionary Constellations, 1810-1992", examines the revolutionary cycle in El Salvador, framing on Erik Hobsbawm's proposal of the world revolutionary cycle and Walter Benjamin's theses on history. His poetry has been published in San Salvador, Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Lima, and Caracas, while his articles and academic essays have appeared in journals in San Salvador, Seville, and Mexico City.
The world is currently experiencing profound crises in all spheres, perhaps most severely in the environmental and political realms. Having personally witnessed the inequalities and injustices in Central America caused from these crises, I am inspired by the thousands of people in my country who have given their lives and defended their principles to transform reality.Pablo Benítez
