The lab organised three webinars and a key in-person meeting in Berlin:
Interzones: Art, Research, and Housing Activism
During the hybrid event, organised in collaboration with Cartógrafes Zangades (Lisbon) at Zona Franca nos Anjos and online on 7 December, the Lab's members explored the possible intersections between art, research, and housing activism. Discussions centred on key questions: What are the potential interzones between these fields? How can a radio soap opera or a graphic novel serve as tools for analysing the city and its conflicts? How can artists and researchers become allies of housing and right-to-the-city movements?
How Do We Achieve Just and Fair Housing Policies?
During the webinar held on Zoom on 1 April 2024, the Lab's members examined the limitations of housing organising, specific housing trends in Serbia and other post-socialist countries, strategies for movement-building in the fight for just housing policies, and challenges related to fostering solidarity and partnerships with political parties, tenants’ unions, activist groups, and other stakeholders.
The Financialisation of Housing in Latin America: Experiences from Buenos Aires and Santiago de Chile
The financialisation of housing has become one of the most pressing urban challenges in Latin America, significantly affecting the accessibility and affordability of homes in the region’s main cities. This webinar, held on 12 September, focused on how financialisation processes manifest in Buenos Aires and Santiago de Chile—two metropolises where real estate market dynamics have deepened social and territorial inequalities.
Just Housing for All Lab, Berlin
This meeting, held from 30 May to 1 June in Berlin, revolved around housing justice organising and mobilisation. Discussions included conversations with invited activists and AFSEE Fellows, the financialisation of housing, and the role of art in urban activism. Contributions came primarily from Berlin-based movements and researchers, while some speakers and AFSEE Fellows joined online for specific sessions. Participants also had the opportunity to take part in field visits, including a trip to the FHXB Museum, which features an exhibition on the history of housing movements in the neighbourhood.
