Resourcing Social Justice: Shifting Conditions for Movements Addressing Inequalities to Flourish

In a time of profound global transformations, driven by regressive political agendas and the destabilisation of traditional funding structures, the resilience and effectiveness of civil society actors fighting for justice and equality are compromised. Therefore, a fundamental re-evaluation of funding and support strategies is needed, not with the aim of restoring a pre-existing and flawed model, but rather to recognise and reimagine new resource architectures.

This project convenes AFSEE Fellows and their networks, who are actively engaged in combating injustice and inequality, to critically examine the inherent flaws and uncertainties within current funding systems, while celebrating emergent approaches. The project aims to support individuals and communities to reimagine and build new, just, equitable, and community-centred resource architectures.

Through a collaborative process of identifying, collecting, and analysing alternative resourcing models and solutions already being practised, the project team will produce accessible content, such as podcasts, event sessions and case studies. These outputs will not only offer practical insights and inspiration to the broader civil society but also foster strategic dialogue and influence among Fellows and key stakeholders, empowering activists, movements, and campaigns to thrive and drive systemic change.

Objectives

  • Document and disseminate alternative resourcing models used by AFSEE Fellows and their networks.
  • Foster dialogue and peer learning among AFSEE Fellows on equitable funding and resource systems.
  • Engage with philanthropic and allied networks to advocate for more just and community-centred resource architectures.
