COVID-19 Rapid Response Fund: supporting communities and policymakers in pandemic response and recovery

The Atlantic Fellows for Social and Economic Equity programme’s COVID-19 Rapid Response Fund (CRRF) was launched in May 2020 to support research with the potential to respond quickly to the global impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and its connections to global inequalities.

Four collaborative projects involving academics, practitioners, civil society professionals, and AFSEE Fellows from all around the world were funded by CRRF. From exploring ways to support precarious workers in the post-COVID labour market to highlighting the agency and creativity of civil society during the pandemic, since they launched three years ago, all four projects have supported communities and policymakers across the globe by testing innovative approaches and creating new thinking on pandemic response and recovery.

Dr Armine Ishkanian, Executive Director of Atlantic Fellows for Social and Economic Equity, says: “In 2020 AFSEE launched the CRRF initiative to support timely research to examine not only how the pandemic was exacerbating and creating inequalities, but more importantly to consider how and in what ways those inequalities could be addressed through collaborative efforts, innovative approaches, and original thinking. The research that has emerged from the four CRRF-funded projects will not only advance our knowledge about the impacts and responses to COVID-19 but can also contribute to policy shaping and inform the wider, public conversations about inequalities”.
